Pictures

Here are some of my all time favourite pictures. These pictures have been taken by me over the last couple of years when on my travels round my local patch and further afield across the UK. They also have a description below of when, where and how I took that image.

Waxwing

This was taken on the 14th January 2017 in Kettering. They were very easy to photograph due to them being incredibly tame, making me take a few steps back so I could actually focus.

Bittern

This was taken at RSPB Lakenheath in Suffolk during the summer last year. This was one of two birds chasing each other around the reserve.

Grey Seal

Taken on a boat during the August last year next to Ramsey Island, Pembrokeshire where there is a large colony of these animals, They were popping up all around us!

Brown Hare

Taken at Pitsford Reservoir during the summer while I was completing a Common Bird Census. This Hare came very close as we watch it ran up the path towards us.

Bewick's Swan

Taken at Slimbridge WWT last winter one evening as they come into feed.

Dunlin, possibly of race 'alpina'

Taken at Pitsford Reservoir along the causeway last spring. This was one of many birds that use the reservoir throughout the migration periods for a pit stop where they can feed and get ready to move on again.

Great Spotted Woodpecker

This was taken at Fineshade Wood on the 2nd of July which turned out to be a really good day. This bird was getting insects out of the trees around the 'Wildlife Hide Feeding Station'.

Little Egret

This Little Egret was taking advantage of the relatively high water levels at Pitsford Reservoir in the spring where the fish were using the vegetation as cover.

Grey Heron

This Grey Heron was taken at Teifi Marshes, Ceredigion before I helped out on a bird ringing session there where I caught and ringed my first ever Grasshopper Warbler.

Red Kite

This was taken on the same day as the Great Spotted Woodpecker however this was at the cafe as it was trying to fetch scraps people had left.

Greater Black Back Gull

This was taken on the Isle of Mull a few years back while I was doing a small amount of seawatching one evening.

Sea Eagle or White Tailed Eagle

This Sea Eagle  from a few years back was taken on a boat called 'Lady Jayne' on Loch Na Keal, Isle of Mull with a excellent company called Mull Chartes. What this company does is take you out onto the loch and throw fish over board then slowly but surely the Eagles start to circle overhead and swoop down to take the fish.

Herring Gull

This Herring Gull was taken on a boat called 'Lady Jayne' on Loch Na Keal, Isle of Mull before the Eagles arrived.

Blackbird

This Blackbird I took while I was in my neighbours garden a while ago. Quite like this image due to the bird being really sharp and infects while the background is completely smashed out and blurred.

Cirl Bunting

This was taken two years ago at Labrador Bay, Devon where there is a ever expanded colony of these stunning buntings that used to be wide spread across England but are now very restricted to the south east.

Gannet

This Gannet was taken off the Pembrokeshire coast a few years ago when a large group were feeding with Porpoises close into the cliff.

Pintail

These two fighting male Pintail were taken at Slimbridge WWT again while the birds were waiting to come into feed but these too were rather intent in working for their dinner during a bit of a punch up.

Mandarin Duck

These pair of Mandarin Ducks were snapped in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire on a small pond that managed to keep up with a large number of these in-native birds to the UK that interestingly nest in holes in trees.

Teal

This male Teal was taken at Titchwell RSPB, Norfolk during June last year.

  1. Your photos are lovely. No fuss, just showing off the beauty of the birds! I grew up in Northamptonshire (near Oundle) so will enjoy looking at your pictures.
